Tom Barnes, President, Calibre One Inc
Tom Barnes is one of the two founding partners of Calibre One and is based at our North American Headquarters in San Francisco. He is responsible for running that office and for ensuring that the founding principles of the business govern our activities and that our reputation continues to remain at the forefront of our industry. Tom is also one of our most active recruiters and although he has to limit the number of assignments that he can take at any one time, his diligence and energy levels when conducting a search, set the pace for the rest of the firm to follow.
Prior to founding Calibre One in 1999, Tom was head of practice for a major, international executive search firm. During his seven year tenure at that business, Tom always pushed for innovation, accountability and results and was a central figure in growing the company from 40 people to 850 by the time he left.
With twelve years of experience in recruiting at the senior level, Tom has devoted all of that time to the acquisition of senior human capital for the technology industries. Tom’s major areas of specialization are currently in software, communications technologies and advanced hardware and his focus is exclusively on board positions, CEOs and their direct reports.
Tom has a Masters degree in English and Psychology and lives in California with his wife, Christie, where his interests in the performing arts, outdoor pursuits and politics do daily battle with his love for fine food and wine.

Kevin Buckby, Partner, San Francisco
Kevin Buckby began his executive search career with Calibre One in London, where he worked closely with Europe’s leading venture capital firms building leadership teams predominantly for wireless and internet ventures.
He moved to the US in 2001 as one of the founding team of Calibre One Inc and has played a key role in helping to grow the firm into the force it is today.
Much of Kevin’s focus is on earlier-stage ventures and he has worked widely with many of Silicon Valley’s most promising start-ups helping them to achieve their potential through securing world-class leadership talent on their behalf. Kevin lives with his wife in San Francisco and enjoys philosophy, literature and soccer.

Michael Lee, Partner, San Francisco
Michael Lee has spent over 15 years in executive search in the technology sector and has completed well in excess of 100 assignments in the U.S., Europe and Latin America during this time.
Prior to Calibre One, he worked with two other renowned international executive search firms based in London and latterly in New York. He moved to San Francisco in 2000 and since has developed his track record in working with many of Silicon Valley’s premier venture firms helping to secure high-impact CEOs, VPs and Board members.
A Barnett Janner Scholar, Michael graduated with an Upper Second BA from the University of Leicester. In his spare time he is a competitive sailor and backcountry enthusiast.

Carrie Walsh , Partner, San Francisco
Carrie Walsh comes to Calibre One with over fifteen years sales and marketing experience in the venture capital, technology, and government industries. Prior to Calibre One, Carrie served as the Vice Consul for IT & Communications at UK Trade & Investment and the British Consulate, where she lead a nationwide team that worked with US venture funds and their portfolio companies to drive inward technology investment to the UK and to promote British trade abroad.
Prior to her tenure with the British Consulate, Carrie worked with Red Rock Capital and Brad Peery Capital as Director and Vice President of Strategic Development. Leading up to her work on the deal side, Carrie was acknowledged as a record-breaking sales performer at VentureOne, a leading venture research firm, and at Teletrac, a venture-backed mobile solution provider that optimizes the service delivery process for customers across a variety of industries.
Carrie is originally from Texas, but has also lived in Germany, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of TempleCollege and BrighamYoungUniversity, and currently lives in San Francisco with her husband, Tim. Outside of the office, Carrie enjoys a variety of sports, to include skiing and mountain biking. She also enjoys traveling and curling up with a good book or movie whenever she has a chance.

Ed Lauing , Partner, San Francisco
Ed Lauing has recruited top-caliber Executive Teams for over 20 years as CEO of three software companies in Silicon Valley. The companies served a spectrum of consumer, internet and enterprise customer segments. Prior to that he held senior marketing roles in publishing. With his CEO background and extensive investor/Board experience he is particularly suited to recruiting CEOs, but has deep experience closing top executives in every functional area.
Ed earned a bachelors degree from DePauw University, a masters from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the Carlsen School at University of Minnesota.
Ed lives in Palo Alto, CA where he has been very involved in the community in outreach to the homeless and youth baseball. Ed currently serves as President of the Palo Alto Babe Ruth baseball league. In his rare free time you will find him running, golfing, or sampling fine wine.
